The 2014 Toastmaters International world champion of public speaking Dananjaya Hettiarachchi reveals how he prepares for his award-winning presentations.

  1. What's the message? Could you write it in 10 words?
  2. What's my title? You will be introduced with your presentation's title. If your title tells the audience what you are going to talk about, you have a bigger chance of losing the audience. But if your title creates curiosity, you have won the audience over.
  3. How will you grab the attention of the audience? First 45 seconds. Can you frame your problem in a innovative way?
  4. What are your 5 main points? Don't go beyond 5 points. The optimum is 3 points.
  5. How will you end it? End it on a high, principle of recency, people remember first what they hear last.
